A lot of people have been asking me about my opinion on the Ultreo Ultrasound Toothbrush.  My response is simple, “ask me about another toothbrush.”  As of early March, 2009, the Ultreo company has gone out of business.

Ultreo originally introduced its Ultreo Ultrasound Toothbrush as a sonic action brush which creates an “ultrasound waveguide” which channels energy into cleaning action bubbles.  It was developed by former scientists at the University of Washington and members of the development team from Sonicare.  This all sounds great, and the toothbrush did work very well but nothing compared to the likes of an Oral B electric toothbrush or a Sonicare toothbrush.  It did however, do an exceptional job at whitening my teeth at a dramatic level.  But I don’t want to get you guys excited about purchasing this electric toothbrush, as there are a ton of reasons not to.

Ultreo UltrasoundTo start, the company is out of business.  As of March 12, 2009, Ultreo announced that they could not find another investor to help maintain the company and were forced into folding.  So, it is bad enough that the replacement brush heads are expensive to start, now it is going to be almost impossible to find.  So, 3-4 months after your purchase, when it is time to replace the brush head, you will be left with an expensive electric toothbrush base with no replacement brush heads, unless you’ve purchased a years supply in the past.

If you truly think about it, the Ultreo Ultrasound Toothbrush has been around for almost 6 full years, since 2003 and it hasn’t made a big splash.  When I first tried this toothbrush back in 2007, I had never heard of it at all.  They didn’t market this product much, which could be a reason it didn’t catch fire right away.  However, after 6 years, most products marketing will be carried by the public’s buzz.  People know Oral B and Sonicare because of the success and popularity the public created from its usage.

Like I said at the beginning of this rating, avoid the Ultreo Ultrasound Toothbrush, for your own financial benefit.  If by some miracle, Ultreo is revived and starts selling the Ultreo Ultrasound Toothbrush again, I will definitely offer it at the Electric Toothbrush Ratings world reknowned prices and give you my honest review of it.

However, if you’re looking for the most similar toothbrush to the Ultreo Ultrasound, check out the Sonicare Elite 7500

Electric Toothbrush Ratings Grade: 7 out of 10 this is my rating I am giving the Ultreo Ultrasound toothbrush if the Ultreo company didn’t go out of business.  Like I said, it compares almost identically  to the Sonicare Elite 7500 as it is also a sonic care toothbrush.
